Effects of Flow Velocity on Transient Behaviour of Liquid CO2 Decompression during Pipeline Transportation

Investigating the transient behaviour of liquid CO2 decompression is great importance to ensure safety pipeline transportation in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model based on non-equilibrium phase transition Span–Wagner equation state (EoS) was developed study effects actual flowing within decompression. Then, CFD verified by comparing simulated results test data a large-scale “shock tube” with an inner diameter 146.36 mm. The showed that evaporation coefficient had significant impact decompression, while condensation made no difference. When 15 s−1, CFD-predicted were good agreement results. Moreover, flow velocity further investigated. It found affected temperature drop during thereby affecting CO2. In addition, initial also influence outside pipe.
